Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Portering Supervisor to assist the Head of Portering in the day-to-day management of the Portering department, ensuring that the service meets all contractual obligations and business objectives.

The Portering Supervisor will play an important role in supporting the effective delivery of portering services across the site. This position focuses on leading and supporting the portering team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining operational standards, addressing and escalating issues where required, and ensuring that staff are deployed effectively to support seamless service delivery. The role is key to supporting patient experience and clinical operations through strong leadership, communication, and operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and guide portering staff to deliver efficient and compliant services.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in line with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained and escalate resource requirements when necessary.
  • Allocate staff effectively to support service flow and patient experience.
  • Make day-to-day operational decisions and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Monitor service performance and implement improvements where required.
  • Act on audit outcomes and ensure compliance with required standards.
  • Promote clear communication and positive team working across the department.

Person Specification

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience, ideally within a healthcare environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience of staff management processes, including absence management, discipline, and training.
  • Ability to monitor performance and drive service improvements.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to changing operational demands.
