This is an exciting opportunity to join a technology organisation working across cyber security, secure information exchange, cloud technologies and national security. As Portfolio Product Owner, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio of software products, working closely with engineering teams, customers and senior stakeholders to turn ideas and strategic requirements into products and capabilities that deliver real value.

You’ll operate as a Hybrid Product Owner, working across Agile and non-Agile environments. You’ll have genuine ownership of your products — from defining product goals and shaping requirements through to prioritising the backlog, supporting engineering decisions and delivering successful releases.

You’ll work closely with engineering to translate high-level portfolio requirements into clear, actionable requirements and goals. You’ll own and continuously manage the product backlog, ensuring priorities are understood, progress is visible and delivery remains aligned with the wider portfolio roadmap, timescales and budgets.

A key part of the role will be owning the end-to-end release process. You’ll coordinate product requirements, engineering activity, documentation, implementation and deployment, ultimately accepting completed releases and communicating updates across the wider business.

You’ll also have significant customer interaction. You’ll present products and their benefits, understand customer needs, gather feedback and use those insights to help shape and prioritise future development. Where required, you’ll work with customers to develop and manage customer-specific backlogs.

Beyond individual releases, you’ll help shape the long-term product lifecycle. This includes contributing to quarterly delivery plans, forecasts and costs, working with the wider portfolio team to maintain a coherent roadmap, and monitoring third-party and supply-chain changes that could affect your products or their components.

You’ll also play a visible role in championing the products, contributing to product collateral, use cases and market messaging, while bringing insight from customers, competitors, partners and suppliers back into the product strategy.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong product ownership skills with the confidence to operate in a technically complex environment.

You’ll ideally have experience owning software products and managing Agile development backlogs, with an understanding of areas such as cyber security, secure information exchange, cloud or information assurance. You don’t necessarily need to be a cyber security specialist — what matters is that you’re technically curious and able to build knowledge quickly.

Experience within Defence, Government, National Security or another highly regulated technology environment would be valuable, although candidates with strong transferable experience will also be considered.

You’ll be comfortable communicating with a wide range of audiences, from software engineers and technical specialists to customers and senior business leaders. You’ll be credible, collaborative and able to bring people together around clear product goals and priorities.

Most importantly, you’ll enjoy taking ownership, solving problems and seeing your work progress from an initial requirement through to a delivered product.

You’ll know you’re succeeding when development programmes are delivered effectively, product priorities are clear, releases happen when they should, and customers and internal stakeholders are confident in the direction of the products.
