THE OPPORTUNITY

We are recruiting an experienced Precision Cylindrical Grinder on behalf of an established precision engineering and subcontract manufacturing business based in Liverpool.

The company manufactures high-quality precision components for demanding industries, including nuclear, defence, oil and gas, fluid handling and power generation. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team working on specialist, technically challenging components.

The successful candidate will be responsible for cylindrical grinding precision-engineered parts to tight tolerances while ensuring that all components meet the required drawing, dimensional and quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Set and operate cylindrical grinding machines.
Grind precision components to tight dimensional tolerances.
Work accurately from detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Select the correct grinding wheels, speeds, feeds and machining methods.
Carry out external cylindrical grinding and related precision finishing work.
Set up components securely using suitable workholding arrangements and steadies.
Measure completed components using appropriate precision measuring equipment.
Check dimensions, surface finishes and tolerances throughout the grinding process.
Identify and correct dimensional or surface-finish issues.
Complete in-process inspection and quality documentation.
Maintain grinding equipment and report any maintenance requirements.
Follow company quality, health and safety, and operational procedures.
Work closely with production, engineering and quality teams.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience working as a cylindrical grinder within a precision engineering environment.
Experience setting and operating cylindrical grinding machines.
Ability to work independently from engineering drawings.
Good understanding of tolerances, surface finishes and precision measurement.
Experience using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and other inspection equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Good understanding of engineering materials and machining processes.
Ability to plan work and manage priorities effectively.
Right to work in the UK and current UK residency.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
Experience grinding long shafts, pump components or valve components.
Experience working with stainless steels, alloy steels and specialist materials.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality procedures.
Previous experience within a subcontract machine shop.
Experience supporting the nuclear, defence, oil and gas or power generation sectors.
