Premises Assistant
Location: SW6, London
Salary: £27,000 – £35,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP / September start
We are currently recruiting for a Premises Assistant to join a welcoming and well-established school in SW6, London, on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable, practical and hardworking individual with previous experience working within an educational setting and who holds an Enhanced DBS to join the school’s premises and facilities team. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean, well-maintained and fit for purpose for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the school premises and grounds.
  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs and minor improvements across the site.
  • Undertake basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and general DIY tasks where required.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the school site, including unlocking and securing buildings.
  • Support with site security, including alarms, gates, doors and access arrangements.
  • Carry out regular checks of the school buildings, grounds and facilities.
  • Identify and report any defects, hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Assist with the coordination and supervision of contractors and external maintenance providers.
  • Support with the preparation and setting up of rooms and spaces for meetings, events and school activities.
  • Assist with deliveries, stock management and the movement of equipment and furniture.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well-presented school environment.
  • Support with health and safety checks and ensure any issues are reported appropriately.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, including fire safety and evacuation arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, checks and site issues.
  • Undertake other premises and facilities duties as required by the Site Manager or senior leadership team.
The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate must have:
  • Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check.
  • Previous experience in a premises, facilities, maintenance, caretaking or similar role.
  • Practical maintenance and DIY skills.
  • The ability to carry out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements within an educational environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A reliable, flexible and hardworking attitude.
