Job Advert: Primary Teacher (Maternity Cover – Full Time)
Location: Hythe, Southampton 
Contract: Full-time, (Maternity Cover)
Start: Next academic year (September 2026)
Salary: M1–M6 (depending on experience)

 

A lovely, welcoming mainstream primary school in the Hythe area is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Class Teacher to join the team on a full-time maternity cover contract for the next academic year. This is a full responsibility teaching role within a supportive and well-resourced school environment.

 

About the Role

 

You will take full responsibility for a class within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 (to be confirmed), delivering high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to plan, teach, assess and manage the classroom effectively, ensuring all pupils make strong progress both academically and personally.

 

  Key Responsibilities

 

  • Full classroom teacher responsibilities, including planning, preparation and assessment
  • Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons in line with the national curriculum
  • Monitor and track pupil progress, adapting teaching where necessary
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and parents/carers
  • Contribute to the wider life and ethos of the school

 

The Ideal Candidate Will:

 

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Have experience teaching within a primary setting 
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisational skills
  • Be committed to high standards of teaching and learning
  • Be flexible, reliable and a positive team player

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
