Primary SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Nottingham City Centre, NG1 - easily commutable from Sneinton, Mapperley, Carlton, West Bridgford and Beeston
Pay: £110-£125 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary with potential to become permanent
Long Term Futures is recruiting an experienced Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive primary school in Nottingham City Centre.
This role is suited to someone who already has practical experience supporting children with special educational needs and is confident adapting their approach to different pupils. You will work across the primary age range, providing focused support to children who need additional help with learning, communication, behaviour and emotional regulation.
The school is looking for someone who can bring patience and consistency while still being proactive and encouraging pupils to develop greater independence.
About the Role
As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs
- Support children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language and communication needs
- Adapt activities and resources to help pupils access the curriculum
- Work towards individual targets outlined within EHCPs and support plans
- Deliver targeted interventions across literacy, numeracy, communication and social development
- Support pupils with sensory and emotional regulation
- Use positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies where appropriate
- Help pupils develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Maintain consistent routines and clear expectations throughout the school day
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Previous experience supporting primary-aged children with SEN/SEND is essential
- Experience as a SEN TA, SEND TA, Teaching Assistant, LSA or similar
- Knowledge of needs such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH and Speech & Language difficulties
- Confident providing dedicated 1:1 support
- Experience working with EHCPs or individual support plans
- PECS, Makaton, visual communication or SALT experience would be advantageous
- Strong understanding of positive behaviour support and emotional regulation
- Calm and consistent when supporting pupils with more complex presentations
- Proactive, reliable and able to use initiative
- Committed to securing a long-term school-based position
