Teach Now is delighted to be recruiting a Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant for a warm, welcoming primary school in Barnet. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced KS1 Teaching Assistant who enjoys working closely with children and has confidence delivering small-group phonics interventions.
About the Role
Working within either a Year 1 or Year 2 classroom, you will play an important part in supporting pupils academically, socially and emotionally. You will work alongside the class teacher to provide high-quality general classroom support while also taking responsibility for targeted phonics sessions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils across the Year 1 or Year 2 curriculum.
- Delivering small-group phonics interventions to help pupils build confidence, fluency and early reading skills.
- Supporting individual pupils and groups during lessons.
- Preparing learning resources and helping maintain an engaging classroom environment.
- Encouraging independence, positive behaviour and participation.
- Monitoring pupil progress and sharing feedback with the class teacher.
- Helping every child feel supported, included and able to achieve their best.
The school currently follows Twinkl Phonics. Previous experience with Twinkl Phonics would be useful but is not essential; strong practical experience delivering phonics interventions is the key requirement.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous Year 1 and/or Year 2 experience.
- Has hands-on experience delivering phonics interventions or phonics groups.
- Understands the needs of younger primary-aged pupils.
- Is warm, patient, enthusiastic and proactive.
- Can confidently support both whole-class learning and smaller targeted groups.
- Works well as part of a collaborative teaching team.
- Is committed to helping children make progress and develop confidence.
This is a lovely, caring school with a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Pupils are encouraged to become the very best versions of themselves, with a nurturing environment providing a strong foundation for children to grow, develop and celebrate their individuality.
The school has a Jewish ethos, while its staff community includes people of different faiths, religions and backgrounds, creating an inclusive and respectful working environment.
Why Apply?
This role offers the opportunity to join a supportive KS1 team, make a meaningful impact on childrens early reading development and gain valuable experience within a positive and nurturing school environment.
If you have strong Year 1 or Year 2 experience and are confident delivering phonics interventions, we would love to hear from you.
