I'm currently recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Exeter.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer to take a senior role within a close-knit team, working across a varied project portfolio covering residential, commercial and education developments.
You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction, while also taking responsibility for project delivery, client relationships and supporting the development of more junior engineers.
The Role
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you'll be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy while providing technical leadership across a range of projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing civil engineering projects from concept through to construction
- Providing technical design expertise and ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard
- Producing technical drawings, calculations, specifications, reports and feasibility studies
- Managing project resources, programmes, budgets and fees
- Liaising with clients, local authorities and other members of multidisciplinary design teams
- Supporting project tenders, bids and fee proposals
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
- Contributing to the growth of the civil engineering team and wider business
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers, helping to develop their technical capabilities
- Providing technical input to more complex projects and helping to ensure best practice across the team
- Managing project margins and contributing to the commercial success of projects
- Ensuring appropriate quality assurance procedures are followed
What I'm Looking For
I'm keen to speak with experienced civil engineers who are looking to take on a greater level of responsibility and technical leadership.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Significant experience within a civil engineering consultancy environment
- Experience leading projects and supervising junior engineers
- Strong experience in highways and pavement design
- Good knowledge of foul and surface water drainage, including SuDS
- Experience using MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow or similar drainage modelling software
- Experience producing technical reports, specifications and feasibility studies
- Strong understanding of relevant design standards including Sewers for Adoption, SuDS Manual, DMRB and Manual for Streets
- Experience designing adoptable infrastructure and working with Section 104, 106, 38 and 278 agreements
- Experience liaising with local authorities and other stakeholders to secure technical approvals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A good understanding of CDM 2015
- Membership of a relevant professional institution such as ICE, ideally with Chartered status or working towards Chartership
