Principal Design Engineer

- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including site teams, project managers, permanent works designers, and specialist subcontractors, to ensure designs meet operational, programme, and safety requirements.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers and designers.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to validate design assumptions, assess compliance, and resolve technical issues during construction.
- Participate in temporary works coordination meetings, risk assessments, constructability reviews, and design reviews.
- Ensure temporary works designs are fully integrated into project delivery plans and comply with CDM regulations, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Support innovation and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance design efficiency, buildability, and safety performance.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments in temporary works engineering, construction methodologies, and industry best practice.,
Person Specification
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards chartership.
- Significant experience in structural engineering and temporary works design within the civil engineering or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of temporary works procedures, governance, and design requirements in accordance with relevant British Standards and industry guidance.
- Experience designing a range of temporary works solutions, including excavations, retaining systems, foundations, working platforms, formwork, falsework, and lifting arrangements.
- Proficiency in engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla Tedds, STAAD Pro, or equivalent analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and site constraints associated with major infrastructure projects.
- Proven leadership capability with the ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and build strong relationships across project teams.
- A proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
