About Us

Butler & Young Associates (BYA) is an established MEP consultancy specialising in Building Services, based in Oxted, Surrey, close to the railway station and M25.

Our client base is largely government and local authority, and we also work on London Underground projects. Most of our work involves retrofit and refurbishment, alongside occasional new-build and extension projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee our small electrical engineering team.
  • Deliver electrical design and project management services.
  • Manage and supervise the electrical department, reporting to the Directors.
  • Liaise directly with clients and attend project and site meetings.
  • Assist with fee bids and client relationships.
  • Support company policy, technical standards and the continued progression of the practice.
  • Mentor and support our younger engineers in achieving their professional goals.

Typical Projects

  • Electrical distribution and lateral mains replacement.
  • Lighting and power installations.
  • Door entry schemes.
  • Fire alarm upgrades.
  • Condition surveys and reports.
  • Technical Advisor roles on Design & Build projects.
  • Electrical supplies to advertising screens.
  • Retrofit and refurbishment projects.

Requirements

  • Degree and/or relevant CIBSE qualification.
  • Ideally Chartered.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.
  • Good written English.
  • Ability to oversee and manage a small electrical team.
  • Familiarity with electrical design packages such as Amtech.
  • Knowledge of construction-related contracts.
  • CAD or Revit experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
