We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with an established reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, commercial, residential and energy projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Principal Geotechnical Design Engineer to join their London office and play a key role in the technical delivery and leadership of geotechnical projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to take ownership of projects, manage client relationships, mentor junior engineers and contribute to the strategic growth of a highly respected consultancy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the geotechnical design and delivery of projects from feasibility through to construction.
- Undertake and review geotechnical assessments, including foundation design, retaining walls, earthworks and slope stability analysis.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to junior engineers and engineering teams.
- Manage ground investigation programmes and interpret geotechnical data.
- Produce and review factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Prepare fee proposals, project programmes and technical specifications.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards.
- Support business development activities and contribute to winning new work.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
- Chartered or working towards Chartership with a relevant professional body.
- Extensive experience within a geotechnical consultancy environment.
- Strong background in geotechnical design and analysis.
- Experience using industry-standard software such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, Oasys Suite, Wallap or equivalent.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Excellent technical reporting and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
