Opportunity available on a long-term contract basis (outside IR35) for an experienced Principal Telecoms Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure programme, supporting the Cork Area Commuter Rail Project through the design and construction phases.
This is a senior technical role with responsibility across the equivalent of GRIP 4–8 / NEC contract stages, providing engineering leadership from detailed design through to construction and delivery.
Role:
As Principal Telecoms Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing telecoms design and construction activities, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the client, contractors and international design resources.
Your responsibilities will include:

Undertaking CRE duties across telecoms design and construction activities.

Leading and reviewing telecoms networking designs, with particular expertise in MPLS-TP.

Participating in multidisciplinary design reviews and Interdisciplinary Checks (IDCs).

Managing telecoms construction activities and supporting delivery on site.
-
Taking accountability for telecoms budgets, change management and programme updates.
-
Planning and attending site visits throughout Ireland as required.

Coordinating telecoms disconnections and liaising with the client and subcontractors.

Producing Subsystem Requirement Specifications (SSRS) and associated technical documentation.

Working in accordance with established Alstom processes and procedures.

Working with the design team, via the Design Interface Manager, where appropriate.

Applying a strong understanding of operational railway telecoms standards across procurement, design and construction.
Requirements:
You will be an experienced railway telecoms professional with a strong track record of delivering telecoms engineering activities across complex rail projects.
You should have:

Proven experience undertaking CRE responsibilities for design and construction.

Expert-level knowledge and experience in MPLS-TP network design.

Strong knowledge and interpretation of operational railway telecoms standards.

Experience working across design and construction stages on major rail infrastructure projects.

Strong multidisciplinary communication and stakeholder-management skills.

The ability to manage technical, commercial and programme interfaces effectively.

Chartered Engineer status (preferred).
-
IRSE Engineering Manager Licence (preferred).
-
A valid Irish Rail PTS.
