Senior Consultant Transport Planner - Manchester
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Consultant Transport Planner to join one of the UK's largest independent transport planning consultancies in its Manchester office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a development planning specialist looking to take ownership of projects, build strong client relationships and play an active role in the development of junior team members.
The Role
You'll work across a range of development planning and transport consultancy projects, providing technical advice from initial planning and site promotion through to project delivery.
- Lead the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals and Environmental Statement chapters.
- Support the promotion of development sites through the Local Plan process.
- Oversee data analysis, multi-modal trip generation forecasting, scenario testing and accessibility assessments.
- Undertake and review junction capacity modelling using tools such as Junctions and LinSig.
- Develop sustainable transport strategies and provide transport input into masterplanning and highway design.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing clear and commercially focused technical advice.
- Lead engagement with local authorities and stakeholders, including meetings, negotiations and consultation responses.
- Manage project programmes, resources, budgets and deadlines.
- Review technical work and provide quality assurance across projects.
- Mentor and support junior transport planners.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience in development-related transport planning.
- Strong understanding of planning policy and guidance, including NPPF, PPG, Local Transport Plans, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20.
- Proven project management experience, including budgets, programmes and client relationships.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, including Excel, Junctions, LinSig and the DfT Connectivity Tool.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Experience reviewing technical work and supporting less-experienced colleagues.
- A proactive and commercially aware approach.
- Chartered status (CTPP) or working towards chartership with CIHT, TPS, ICE, CILT or similar is desirable.
Experience with GIS, VISSIM, Paramics, SATURN or expert witness work would also be advantageous.
