Rate: Up to £60/hr
Are you a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in thermal power plant design and Balance of Plant (BoP) systems? Ready to apply your conventional power expertise to next-generation low-carbon energy transition projects across the UK?
Our client's Energy Transition Team is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design delivery across a range of high-impact energy projects-spanning Carbon Capture (CCUS), Hydrogen, Energy-from-Waste (EfW), and industrial energy systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical design engineering across Feasibility, Concept, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
Produce calculations (MathCAD), equipment specifications, and datasheets for key rotating and static equipment (turbines, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers).
Deliver mechanical engineering design for Balance of Plant (BoP) systems and auxiliary services.
Collaborate with Process Engineering on PFDs and P&IDs, and participate in 3D model reviews and plant layout development.
Review vendor proposals and liaise directly with OEMs, EPC contractors, and key project stakeholders.
Conduct engineering integrity assessments and troubleshooting for operational thermal assets.
What We Are Looking For:
BSc / MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards.
Proven track record in thermal and/or combined-cycle power plant (CCGT) engineering.
Essential experience in Balance of Plant (BoP) systems, pressure vessels, and piping design/stress analysis.
Strong working knowledge of gas turbine systems and associated plant auxiliaries.
Proficiency with MathCAD for engineering calculations and MS Excel for technical datasheets.
Experience collaborating with OEMs, EPCs, or operational thermal assets.
