RSR Justice is delighted to be supporting Guernsey Prison Service in recruiting six experienced Prison Officers for an initial three-month contract on the beautiful island of Guernsey.

This is an excellent opportunity for qualified Prison Officers looking for a rewarding temporary assignment while experiencing island life for the remainder of the summer. Accommodation is provided free of charge and travel to and from the island at the start and end of the contract is included.

About the Role

As a Prison Officer you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, security and good order of the prison whilst supporting rehabilitation and positive behavioural change.

Working within a close-knit team, you'll supervise prisoners, maintain professional boundaries, manage risk and contribute towards a safe and respectful custodial environment.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Prison Officers who can quickly integrate into an established team and deliver high standards of professionalism from day one.

Shift Pattern

The prison operates a 24/7 rotational shift system.

The temporary officers will work a mixture of:

  • Early Shifts: 07:00 – 13:45
  • Late Shifts: 13:30 – 20:30
  • Main Shifts: 07:45 – 17:15
  • Extended ('A') Shifts: 07:45 – 19:15
  • Every second weekend worked

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervising prisoners safely, securely and professionally.
  • Maintaining the security and good order of the establishment.
  • Escorting and supervising prisoner movements.
  • Monitoring prisoner behaviour and identifying welfare, self-harm or suicide risks.
  • Completing security, incident, discipline and use of force reports.
  • Conducting searches and mandatory security checks.
  • Supporting rehabilitation through positive engagement and professional role modelling.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to deliver safe custody.
  • Maintaining accurate records and complying with prison policies and procedures.

Person Specification

  • Current Prison Officer Entry Level Training (or equivalent) and recent operational custodial experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient and professional under pressure.
  • Experience dealing with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong team-working skills.
  • Good organisational ability and sound judgement.
  • Ability to challenge inappropriate behaviour confidently and professionally.
  • Experience writing reports.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
