Private Sector Housing Officer

Contract: Initial 12-week contract
PAYE: £27.81 per hour
Limited/Umbrella: £36.40 per hour

We are currently seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join a busy Local Authority in North London on an initial 12-week contract.
The successful candidate will work within the Housing Standards service, helping to improve housing conditions within the private rented sector and ensure landlords comply with relevant housing and licensing legislation. You will undertake property inspections, investigate complaints relating to poor housing conditions and nuisance, identify housing hazards and take appropriate enforcement action where required.

Key responsibilities will include:
·Carrying out housing and public health inspections, including property condition, nuisance, drainage, pest control and licensing compliance visits.
·Investigating complaints regarding poor conditions within privately rented accommodation.
·Identifying housing hazards and assessing the nature, severity and urgency of remedial works.
·Taking appropriate action against non-compliant landlords in accordance with relevant legislation.
·Providing clear advice and guidance to tenants, landlords and other stakeholders.
·Maintaining accurate records and ensuring cases are progressed effectively and in line with statutory requirements.

We are looking for candidates with previous Private Sector Housing/Housing Standards experience, within a Local Authority environment, alongside a good understanding of housing hazards, property inspections, enforcement and relevant housing/public health legislation.
