Contract: Initial 3-month contract (strong likelihood of extension)
Hours: Flexible – 37 hours or 30 hours per week

Overview

We are currently supporting a Local Authority in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and supportive team, contributing to key housing enforcement work within the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting HHSRS inspections, with a particular focus on damp and mould and housing disrepair
• Assessing properties and identifying category hazards in line with legislation
• Managing enforcement cases from inspection through to resolution
• Serving statutory notices, including Prohibition Notices and other enforcement actions where required
• Liaising with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance
• Supporting the Local Authority’s wider objectives around improving housing standards

Requirements

• Proven experience working within Private Sector Housing / Environmental Health
• Strong working knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
• Experience dealing with enforcement action, including serving formal notices
• Ability to manage caseloads independently and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
