Process Engineer - Anaerobic Digestion

Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join a leading Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility near Edinburgh on a 3-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and optimising plant performance, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards, and driving continuous improvement across the operation.
This role would suit an individual with experience in Anaerobic Digestion, Biogas, Waste Treatment, Water Treatment, Energy, or other industrial process environments.
Daily Duties:

Monitor, analyse and optimise Anaerobic Digestion plant performance.

Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, reliability and output.

Support daily plant operations to ensure safe and compliant performance.

Analyse process data and trends to identify performance improvements and troubleshoot operational issues.

Work closely with operational and maintenance teams to maximise plant availability and efficiency.

Assist in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives.

Support the management of feedstock, digestion performance, biogas production and digestate quality.

Ensure compliance with environmental permits, legislation and company procedures.

Participate in site inspections, audits and safety reviews.

Maintain accurate operational records and reports.

Contribute to maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

Promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the site.
Essential experience:
-
Proven experience within a process engineering role in Anaerobic Digestion, Biogas, Waste, Water, Energy, Chemical, Utilities or similar process industries.

Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Strong understanding of industrial process operations and optimisation.

Experience analysing operational data and implementing process improvements.

Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements within industrial environments.

Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) or relevant training and awareness to ensure internal Competence Management System (CMS) standards are achieved and maintained.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently.
Preffered experience:
Experience within Anaerobic Digestion or Biogas production facilities.
IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.Awareness of DSEAR and ATEX regulations.
Knowledge of biological treatment processes and renewable energy generation.
Experience working within ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
Understanding of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems and asset performance management.
Working at Height Certification.
First Aid Qualification.Process leadership or supervisory experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Process Engineer to support the optimisation and performance of a renewable energy facility, contributing to sustainable energy generation and operational excellence.
Working Shifts on site either 6:00am - 2:30pm or 11:30am - 8:00pm with 30 minute lunch breaks. 40 hours per week.
