Process Instrumentation Engineer – Pharma

Location: Middlesborough
Rate: £45–£50 per hour – Outside IR35
Contract: Initial 3 months, with potential for extension / long-term work
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

The Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Process Engineer to support a pharmaceutical project based in Billingham.

The project is currently behind schedule, so this role would suit someone who can hit the ground running, take ownership of the process engineering activities and provide technical leadership to a small team of engineers.

You will be heavily involved in reviewing and understanding P&IDs, assessing pharmaceutical process equipment and identifying how equipment and instrumentation operate throughout the process.

A key part of the role will also involve supporting and overseeing calibration activities, including identifying calibration points from P&IDs and ensuring the relevant technical documentation is completed to the required standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide technical support to a small team of engineers.
  • Take ownership of process engineering activities across the project.
  • Review, interpret and understand P&IDs.
  • Assess pharmaceutical process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Identify equipment, instrumentation and relevant calibration points.
  • Support and oversee calibration activities.
  • Review technical documentation, equipment packages and engineering information.
  • Work closely with engineering, validation and project teams.
  • Ensure work is completed in line with GMP / GxP requirements.
  • Help drive the project forward and support the recovery of the project schedule.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong Process Engineering background, ideally gained within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or another highly regulated industry.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience as a Process Engineer or Senior Process Engineer.
  • Previous experience within pharmaceutical, biotech or another regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of P&IDs.
  • Experience working with process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience identifying and managing calibration points and activities.
  • Knowledge of GMP / GxP standards.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising or providing technical guidance to engineers.
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
  • Experience using Kneat would be advantageous.
