THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit an Procurement Manager for our client based is in the Teesside area. Our client is one of the world leading manufacturers for the energy and construction sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed organisation at the beginning of a huge investment programme that will transform the future outlook for the site and business.
THE ROLE
- Lead the full procurement lifecycle for assigned categories (e.g. machinery and industrial services, raw and secondary materials, MRO, general and IT services).
- Request, obtain and analyze quotations, negotiate prices, terms and conditions, and challenge suppliers to improve cost, quality, and service levels.
- Develop and implement category and sourcing strategies that support production continuity, cost optimization, and long-term business goals.
- Manage the end-to-end tendering process, from scope definition and documentation preparation to bid evaluation, recommendation, and contract award.
- Build, maintain and manage a robust supplier base, including vendor qualification, due diligence, onboarding, and performance evaluation.
- Oversee contract lifecycle management, ensuring contracts are compliant, up to date, and aligned with company policies and authority-to-commit procedures.
- Work closely with Finance to align procurement activities with budgeting, working capital needs, cash planning, and timely vendor payments.
- Monitor and resolve supplier and internal stakeholder queries, including invoice and finance-related issues, in collaboration with the Finance team.
- Use ERP and procurement systems to manage purchase requisitions, purchase orders, reporting, and data analysis, ensuring data accuracy and transparency.
- Identify and deliver savings and value improvements by applying total cost of ownership (TCO) principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track and report key procurement KPIs (e.g. savings, on-time delivery, contract compliance, supplier performance) and provide regular updates to site and finance leadership.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HSE and other internal stakeholders to fully understand needs and ensure procurement supports operational plans.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company guidelines, purchasing policies, health and safety procedures, and applicable legislation.
THE PERSON
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related field; a postgraduate qualification will be considered an advantage.
- Up to 10 years of progressive procurement experience within an industrial, engineering, manufacturing, or project-driven environment.
- Proven track record in strategic sourcing, tendering, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
- Good understanding of financial principles and the interaction between procurement, cost control, and working capital.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP or similar) and strong MS Office skills (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and numerate skills with the ability to interpret data and translate it into practical actions.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and influencing skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Professional procurement qualifications (e.g. CIPS) or progress towards them will be considered an asset.
