Our engineering clients based in Waterloovillet have an exciting opportunity for a Product Design Engineer to join their growing team.

The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, validation and certification of the company's product range. Working from both existing product platforms and new concepts generated through internal R&D activities, the role will lead products through the complete development lifecycle, from concept definition and detailed design through testing, certification, and production release. The role is predominantly mechanical in nature and requires a strong understanding of mechanism design, structural behaviour, material selection and electromechanical system integration.

Duties & Responsibilities
 

  • Develop and improve fire products to meet relevant performance, certification, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review existing products and implement improvements based on testing, field experience, manufacturing feedback and lessons learned.
  • Develop new product concepts generated through R&D activities into practical, manufacturable and certifiable solutions.
  • Produce 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and technical specifications.
  • Undertake engineering calculations and analysis to support product performance, reliability and safety.
  • Work with electrical engineers to specify motors, drives, and control systems, including assessment of torque requirements, duty cycles, power consumption and system performance.
  • Support prototype manufacture, assembly, and evaluation, resolving technical issues throughout development.
  • Plan and oversee internal and third-party testing, including fire resistance, smoke leakage, durability and operational performance assessments.
  • Review test results, investigate failures, and implement design modifications where required.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation to support product certification and ongoing compliance.
  • Assess the impact of design changes on certified products and support engineering change control activities.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure products are suitable for efficient and repeatable production.


Required skills & experience:
 

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Fire Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience in mechanical product development
  • Design experience

Working hours: 8am – 4:30pm – Monday – Thursday 8am – 2pm – Friday
