A specialist engineering business is seeking an experienced Product Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of advanced sensing and acoustic technology products. This is a highly visible position responsible for product performance, lifecycle management, manufacturing support and future product development within a complex engineering environment.

The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for designated products, ensuring they remain technically robust, operationally effective and commercially competitive throughout their lifecycle. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Service and Business Development teams, this role will drive product strategy, continuous improvement and technology roadmap activities.



Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership

  • Act as the technical owner for assigned product lines throughout their operational lifecycle.
  • Maintain responsibility for product capability, performance, configuration and technical governance.
  • Balance customer requirements, manufacturing capability, operational support and commercial objectives.
  • Drive long-term product success and ongoing product evolution.

Product Development

  • Develop and maintain technical product roadmaps.
  • Identify future enhancements, capability improvements and technology opportunities.
  • Ensure products remain aligned with customer requirements and future operational needs.
  • Support integration with wider navigation, autonomy and mission management systems.

Production Support

  • Provide technical leadership to manufacturing teams.
  • Support the transition of products from development into production.
  • Lead investigations into production issues, recurring faults and technical failures.
  • Manage engineering changes affecting manufactured products.
  • Ensure production documentation remains accurate, controlled and up to date.
  • Support supplier technical discussions relating to product manufacture.

Sustaining Engineering

  • Monitor field performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and maintainability.
  • Lead obsolescence management activities.
  • Maintain product configuration and baseline control.
  • Support verification, validation and qualification activities.
  • Coordinate factory testing, integration testing and operational evaluation activities.

Customer & Operational Support

  • Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers and stakeholders.
  • Support installation, commissioning and operational activities where required.
  • Investigate operational issues and determine root causes.
  • Support technical discussions with customers, partners and end users.
  • Represent products during demonstrations, trials and technical reviews.

Business Support

  • Support customer engagements and bid activities.
  • Provide technical input into proposals and solution development.
  • Assist with product positioning and competitive analysis.
  • Support long-term product strategy and growth initiatives.


Key Skills

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience supporting technically complex engineering products.
  • Experience acting as a Product Manager, Product Authority, Lead Engineer or Technical Product Owner.
  • Extensive experience supporting products in both production and operational service.
  • Experience transitioning products from development into manufacture.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing teams with technically complex products.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering change management and product configuration control.
  • Experience investigating and resolving manufacturing, operational or field failures.
  • Customer-facing technical leadership experience.
  • Experience working within defence, maritime, subsea, underwater, sensing, acoustic or other high-reliability engineering sectors.
  • Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Commercial functions.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience with sonar, underwater acoustics or underwater sensing products.
  • Previous responsibility for technically advanced products operating in challenging environments.
  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, integration testing, qualification activities or sea trials.
  • Experience working with autonomous, unmanned or remotely operated systems.
  • Understanding of defence standards and military qualification processes.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software such as Inventor.
