Product Owner

Product Owner, Claims | Up to £90,000 | Hybrid, Buckinghamshire | Regulated Insurance

Most Product Owner roles hand you a backlog and a set of ceremonies someone else designed. This one asks you to build the model. Our client, a well-established UK insurer, is about to go live on a new claims platform. They want their first dedicated Product Owner to take claims out of programme mode and into genuine, long-term product ownership.

You'll set the vision, shape the roadmap, and define what good product ownership looks like in a business where it hasn't existed outside a programme before. As more product squads follow, yours becomes the template.

The Role

  • Own the claims product vision and roadmap, and turn business strategy into a prioritised backlog.
  • Lead the handover from programme delivery into continuous improvement, including reviewing and reshaping an inherited backlog of 100+ items.
  • Set up product ownership from the ground up: ways of working, decision rights, success measures and a clear North Star.
  • Identify and deliver early wins after go-live that show the business what product ownership can do.
  • Shape a phased roadmap for automation and straight-through processing, working with data and AI colleagues.
  • Manage an agreed change budget, with every change backed by a clear benefit case.
  • Make sure change meets FCA Consumer Duty, conduct and data protection requirements.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager in insurance or regulated financial services (banking, mortgages, lending).
  • Ownership of product strategy and roadmap, not just backlog prioritisation.
  • Experience establishing product ways of working where little structure existed.
  • Strong stakeholder management, including bringing non-product colleagues on the journey.
  • Comfort with Agile delivery in a matrix model.

Nice to have:

  • Claims or general insurance experience (claims specialists will support you, so this isn't essential).
  • Exposure to automation, AI or straight-through processing initiatives.
  • CRM-based platform experience.
  • CSPO or equivalent certification.

What's On Offer

  • Salary up to £90,000 plus a strong benefits package.
  • Hybrid working, with two days a week on site.
  • A genuine build role with senior sponsorship and a new customer experience function growing around you.
  • A structured handover period, with experienced subject matter experts alongside you.
  • A considered, steady environment, suited to someone who wants to build lasting foundations rather than chase quick change.
