Production CAD Designer
Purosearch
A fast-growing, design-led production company creating innovative, sustainable sets for some of the biggest names in television, film, sport and live events is looking for a Production CAD / Structural Designer.
From pitch side broadcast desks and studio environments to large-scale scenic builds, we turn ambitious creative ideas into lightweight, practical, beautifully engineered structures using our unique paper-based materials and cutting-edge manufacturing technology.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a genuinely pioneering business, work on high-profile projects, influence designs from concept through to manufacture, and help shape the future of sustainable set construction.
We are looking for a Production CAD / Structural Designer to support Vectar Sets with the creation of cutter-ready files for lightweight scenic sets, broadcast desks, event structures and paperboard-based display builds.
The role involves taking 3D concepts or models and converting them into accurate 2D production files suitable for digital cutting on our JWEI flatbed cutter. You must be comfortable working from SketchUp, Fusion 360, Rhino, SolidWorks or similar 3D models and translating them into clean, buildable 2D cutting files.
The ideal person will have experience in one or more of the following areas: structural packaging, corrugated display design, POS / FSDU design, exhibition fabrication, scenic construction, CNC cutting, laser cutting, digital cutting tables, Artios CAD, Kasemake, Adobe Illustrator, DXF file preparation or production draughting.
You will need to understand material thickness, tabs, fold lines, V-grooves, score lines, registration, nesting, tolerances and real-world assembly. This is not just a visual design role — the files must cut correctly, assemble properly and work in a fast-paced production environment.
Initial work would be freelance / project-based, with the potential to become a regular ongoing role. We are happy to run a paid test project to assess suitability.
Required skills:
- 3D to 2D file conversion
- Adobe Illustrator and/or CAD software
- DXF / AI / PDF production file preparation
- Understanding of digital cutting / CNC / flatbed cutting workflows
- Clean layer management and accurate scaling
- Ability to think practically about how parts assemble
Useful experience:
- Artios CAD, Kasemake, Esko, Rhino, Fusion 360, SolidWorks or SketchUp
- Corrugated cardboard, honeycomb board, Re-board or paperboard construction
- Exhibition, event, retail display, theatre, TV or scenic fabrication
