Production Engineer

Location: West Sussex
Salary: £40,000 to £45,000
Contract: Permanent, full-time

An established specialist engineering and manufacturing business is looking for a Production Engineer to join its team in West Sussex.

This is a practical position for someone who enjoys working closely with the shop floor, solving manufacturing problems and improving how technically complex products are produced.

The role

Working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality, you will help develop, improve and standardise manufacturing processes across the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing existing manufacturing processes and identifying improvements

  • Supporting new products and engineering changes as they move into production

  • Resolving day-to-day manufacturing and process issues

  • Investigating recurring problems and supporting root-cause analysis

  • Developing work instructions, process documentation and standard operating procedures

  • Improving production flow, quality, repeatability and efficiency

  • Designing or improving tooling, fixtures and manufacturing aids

  • Working directly with operators and supervisors to understand practical production challenges

  • Supporting continuous-improvement and cost-reduction projects

  • Working alongside Design Engineering and Quality to improve manufacturability

  • Supporting trials, validation activity and the introduction of new equipment or processes

What we are looking for

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Production Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer or similar

  • A practical engineering background within manufacturing

  • Experience improving processes within a live production environment

  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause investigation skills

  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings

  • Experience producing technical documentation and work instructions

  • An understanding of continuous-improvement principles

  • The confidence to work directly with production teams

  • A relevant engineering qualification or strong equivalent experience

Experience within complex, low-volume or quality-led manufacturing would be particularly useful.

You do not need to come from one specific industry. The main requirement is that you can provide practical examples of improving manufacturing processes and resolving genuine production problems.
