Shift: 42 hours
· Week 1: Wednesday – Friday 05:30-18:00 & Saturday 05:30-17:00
· Week 2: Thursday- Friday 05:30-18:00 & Saturday 05:30-17:00
Hourly Rate: £15.11 per hour.
We are looking for a Production Leading Hand to join our Abernethy team. This is an exciting opportunity where you will play a key role in operating our automated production lines, ensuring products are packed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
At Branston, potatoes are our business, supplying both fresh and prepared products to one of the biggest retailers within the UK. The role is based at our Fresh factory, which has recently undergone huge developments, with new automation and machinery installed as part of our continuous improvement plans.
Your role as Production Leading Hand will include but is not limited to:
- Operating and monitoring VFFS (Vertical Form Fill Seal) check-weighing and other automated production equipment to achieve production targets.
- Carrying out routine equipment checks and making basic operational adjustments to maintain efficient production.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure high standards of food safety, product quality and operational performance.
- Supporting and training new team members in production processes, safe working practices and operating procedures.
- Monitoring production performance and identifying issues that may affect output or quality, reporting concerns to the Team Leader where appropriate.
- Working closely with the Engineering and Maintenance teams by reporting equipment faults promptly.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment in line with company policies and food safety standards.
- Contributing ideas for continuous improvement to help increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Working closely with the Team Leader to understand daily production plans, priorities and operational requirements, helping to ensure the shift runs efficiently.
- Acting as the first point of contact for production operators in the absence of the Team Leader, escalating issues where necessary
What we're looking for
We're looking for a motivated and proactive individual with:
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced production, supporting or leading small team within manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience operating VFFS equipment (preferred but not essential).
- Good attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and food safety.
- The ability to identify and resolve simple operational issues during production.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments.
- The ability to work independently, follow procedures and use initiative when required.
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Confidence in coaching, motivating and developing team members to achieve production and quality targets.
