My client is a genuine manufacturing leader and multi award winner in their respective sector. Well established over many years of trading, with an expanding team. Due to significant recent project success they urgently seek a new Production Manager to join their existing team. The ideal candidate for this role must balance technical literacy with commercial acumen.
Leadership Style: Assertive but supportive. Comfortable setting clear performance metrics while working alongside the team during peak operational surges.
Process Focus: Highly methodical. A champion for continuous improvement (Lean/5S principles) who views structured documentation as a necessity, not an afterthought.
Education Background: Ideally holds a Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Operations Management.
Experience: Working with quality systems, audits, documentation control, Health & Safety and continuous improvement initiatives. Knowledge of workshop test equipment, electronic assemblies, production processes and repair environments.
Skills: People management and team leadership, Technical production and manufacturing knowledge, Operational performance analysis and reporting, Communication and stakeholder management, Quality, compliance and Health & Safety awareness.
This is a hybrid managerial-technical position designed for a hands-on leader. You will not be sitting in a distant office; you will be actively driving efficiency directly on the shop floor while bridging the gap between local operations and broader business goals.
Operational Scope
End-to-end site workflow—spanning raw inventory intake (Goods In), technical assembly/testing (Production), client diagnostics (Returns & Repairs), and outbound distribution (Goods Out/International Shipping).
Key Interfacing Departments: R&D, Engineering, and Quality Control. You will act as the operational translator, turning engineering designs into scalable, compliant production realities.
Responsibility
Team Leadership & Resource Optimization
- Direct Line Management: Managing a specialized team of production operatives and technical engineers.
- Capacity Planning: Dynamically scaling and shifting staff resources to match fluctuating client demand and strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Skill Matrix Development: Mapping out the team’s current skill sets to identify training gaps, ensuring continuous cross-training on specialized electronic test equipment.
- Engineering Oversight: Acting as the first line of defense for complex technical hitches on electronic assemblies.
- Root-Cause Analysis: Using your manufacturing background to help technicians debug issues before choosing to escalate them to the main R&D team.
- Data-Driven Reporting: Compiling hardware failure rates, throughput metrics, and repair turnaround times for senior leadership meetings.
- Quality Management Systems (QMS): Ensuring every build, repair, and test complies rigidly with ISO standards and internal documentation control policies.
- Health & Safety (H&S): Enforcing safe workshop practices (e.g., Electrostatic Discharge [ESD] safety protocols, correct tool usage, and hazard reduction).
- Supply Chain Touchpoints: Managing the physical flow of stock, including complex paperwork for international customs and global shipping.
- Site Security: Serving as a trusted site keyholder, responsible for opening/closing the facility and ensuring the physical security of high-value electronic components.
