This Production Manager role is a temporary position with a view to permanent for the right candidate, working with a growing precision engineering business in Poole. The Production Manager will take ownership of the day-to-day running of a small workshop, helping improve planning, stock control, purchasing, workflow and team organisation. This Production Manager position suits someone who has managed a small engineering workshop, production cell or hands-on manufacturing operation and enjoys bringing structure to a growing SME environment.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a Production Manager
- Manage the day-to-day running of a small engineering workshop
- Plan daily production activity and keep work moving against customer demand
- Lead, organise and support a small team of engineers and technicians
- Monitor production progress, workload priorities and delivery schedules
- Manage stock levels, purchasing requirements and supplier orders
- Raise purchase orders and support invoice-related processes
- Improve workshop organisation, production flow and general operating structure
- Put practical systems in place around planning, KPIs, materials and job progress
- Work with engineering staff to resolve production issues quickly
- Support incoming work, inspection, assembly and production readiness
- Help increase output while maintaining accuracy, quality and control
- Liaise with suppliers where required to keep materials and work moving

- Experience running a small engineering, manufacturing or production workshop
- Background in mechanical engineering, precision manufacturing or technical assembly
- Able to plan work, organise people and keep production moving day to day
- Comfortable managing stock, purchase orders, supplier deliveries and materials availability
- Confident improving processes, workflow, systems and general workshop structure
- Strong communicator who can support engineers while keeping accountability in place
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to solve problems quickly
- Able to work closely with a business owner in a growing SME environment
Desirable - Production Manager
- Experience in precision engineering, CNC, mechanical assembly or electromechanical products
- Background with rotating equipment, motors, machine tools or high-speed machinery
- Experience introducing or improving stock control, purchasing or production systems
- Dynamic balancing knowledge would be useful
- QuickBooks experience would be beneficial but is not essential
- Previous SME manufacturing experience
