The Role:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the fabrication and manufacturing workshop, ensuring production targets, quality standards and delivery deadlines are achieved.
- Plan and schedule production activities to maximise efficiency, machine utilisation and labour resources.
- Lead, motivate and develop the production team, promoting high standards of workmanship, accountability and teamwork.
- Oversee the operation of CNC fibre laser cutting machine, press brake, welding equipment and general fabrication machinery
- Monitor production performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements to increase productivity
- Ensure fabricated components are manufactured to engineering drawings, specifications and company quality standards.
- Manage material flow throughout the workshop, ensuring raw materials, bought-out items and finished products are available when required.
- Work closely with Engineering, Purchasing and Contracts teams to ensure projects progress smoothly
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, PUWER requirements, COSHH requirements and company procedures.
- Maintain safe systems of work for all workshop equipment including lifting equipment, forklift trucks and fabrication machinery.
- Support recruitment, training, performance management and competency development of workshop personnel.
- Prepare production reports, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs)
About You
- Proven experience as a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Workshop Manager role within a fabrication or engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes.
- Experience managing CNC fibre laser cutting machines and CNC press brakes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation including PUWER, LOLER and COSHH.
- Experience managing production planning, resource allocation and manufacturing schedules.
- Forklift truck and overhead crane experience would be advantageous.
