Production & Materials Operative

Location: Acton, West London
Rate: £27.72 per hour Umbrella
Contract: 3 months initially
Start: ASAP

We are currently recruiting for a Production & Materials Operative to support a busy depot environment in Acton. The successful candidate will provide practical support to production and engineering teams, assisting with the preparation, movement, cleaning and minor assembly of components and equipment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to production staff by carrying out a range of tasks including stripping, cleaning and minor assembly work.

  • Work closely with the wider depot team to ensure assets are transported safely around the depot.

  • Identify raw materials and manufactured components using Bills of Materials, stores requisitions and manufacturing specifications.

  • Operate materials handling equipment including overhead cranes, counterbalance forklift trucks and other electric vehicles.

  • Safely use hand and power tools, including drills, sanders and power screwdrivers.

  • Assist production and engineering staff with the manufacture and preparation of work.

  • Clean and prepare components, bogies and carriages.

  • Dismantle equipment to the appropriate subsystem/component level.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment and carry out general housekeeping duties.

  • Report defects, hazards and unsafe working practices promptly.



Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with corporate and statutory guidelines relating to driving at work.

  • Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others affected by your work activities.

  • Follow all working instructions, health and safety procedures and site requirements.



Essential Skills & Experience

  • Valid counterbalance forklift licence.

  • Previous experience operating a forklift in a working/depot environment.

  • Experience using basic hand and power tools such as drills, sanders and power screwdrivers.

  • Good working knowledge and understanding of forklift operation.

  • Ability to understand equipment and dismantle it to the appropriate subsystem/component level.

  • Basic First Aid and Manual Handling awareness.

  • Basic Health & Safety at Work knowledge.

  • Ability to read and write clearly and legibly.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and understand instructions.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to understand and comply with working instructions.

  • Strong housekeeping skills and the ability to work independently when required.

  • Good customer service skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers, members of the public and statutory bodies.
