Salary:                   £17.44 per hour (Via an Umbrella Company)

Contract Type:    Temporary with Opportunities to go Permanent

Location:              Northampton

Hours:                   Full Time, 40 hours per week (Mon – Fri 7:30am-4pm)

Job Purpose

The Quality Control / Production Operator is responsible for carrying out quality inspection and production activities to ensure products are manufactured safely, accurately and consistently in accordance with required specifications and quality standards.

The role carries out quality checks throughout the manufacturing process, including the inspection of materials, components, work in progress and finished products, identifying and escalating defects and non-conformances where required.

The role also supports wider production activities in line with operational requirements.

Responsibilities:

Quality Control & Inspection

Carry out quality inspections on incoming materials, components, work in progress and finished products.

Check products against specifications, manufacturing documentation, drawings, work instructions and required quality standards.

Measure dimensions and check products against specified tolerances using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment.

Identify defects, discrepancies and non-conforming products.

Reject or quarantine products that do not meet the required specification in accordance with company procedures.

Escalate quality concerns and non-conformances promptly to the appropriate person.

Complete quality checks, inspection records and associated documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Maintain accurate records to support product and material traceability.

Carry out in-process quality checks to identify potential issues before products reach final assembly or despatch.

Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is suitable for use and within the required calibration period.

Work with Production, Quality and Engineering colleagues to investigate and resolve quality issues.

Identify and highlight recurring defects, trends or quality concerns.

Support root cause analysis and corrective actions where required.

Production

Support production activities in line with operational requirements.

Carry out cutting, machining, assembly and other manufacturing activities relating to aluminium glazing systems as required.

Follow manufacturing instructions, production documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Handle materials, components and finished products safely and correctly.

Work to required production and quality standards.

Support colleagues across production areas where required to meet business needs.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Follow all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

Follow safe systems of work, risk assessments, SOPs and company procedures at all times.

Wear and maintain the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment in accordance with 5S principles.

Report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents and near misses promptly.

Ensure quality and production requirements are achieved without compromising health and safety standards.

Continuous Improvement

Support continuous improvement activities across the manufacturing operation.

Highlight opportunities to improve product quality, processes and working methods.

Contribute to the reduction of defects, rework and waste.

Participate in quality investigations and improvement activities where required.

Work collaboratively with Production, Quality and Engineering teams to support improvements in manufacturing performance.

What we are looking for:

Essential

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing, production, quality or inspection environment.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working to defined procedures, specifications or quality standards.
  • Experience of completing records or production/quality documentation accurately.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a Quality Control or Quality Inspection role.
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers, callipers and gauges.
  • Experience reading manufacturing or engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, including ISO 9001.
  • Experience identifying and recording non-conformances.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
  • Experience within an engineering, fabrication, aluminium or glazing manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP or manufacturing systems.

  • Ability to remain calm and focused within a busy manufacturing environment.
  • Flexible approach and willingness to work across both quality inspection and production activities in line with business requirements.

General

Quality is a fundamental requirement of the role. Production output must not be achieved at the expense of required product quality, safety or compliance standards.
