PRODUCTION OPERATIVE
Location– Larne (Northern Ireland)
Type of role – Full time ongoing
Salary - £14.27-£28.54/hr
Hours– Monday to Thursday (37.5hrs/week) – days and nights
About the Role
Caterpillar is seeking motivated and reliable Production Operatives to join its manufacturing team in Larne. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a world-class manufacturing environment, contributing to the production and assembly of generator sets while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.
Successful candidates will work across various production areas and play an important role in supporting Caterpillar's commitment to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
As a Production Operative, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Mechanically preparing substrates to the required standard using power tools.
- Cleaning and preparing surfaces in accordance with specifications.
- Stripe coating, cutting in and masking components prior to painting.
- Assembling sub-assemblies, optional components and complete generator sets.
- Working from engineering drawings, prints and standard work instructions to manufacture and assemble components.
- Operating across various production areas, including:
- Fettle/Paint
- Machine Shop
- Paint Line
- Nutsert
- Assembly
- Ensuring compliance with all health & safety procedures and quality standards.
- Supporting 5S initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
- Demonstrating Caterpillar's Values in Action through professional conduct and teamwork.
- Assisting with the training of colleagues when required.
- Carrying out any other duties appropriate to the role.
Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- The ability to understand and follow detailed verbal and written work instructions.
- Basic numeracy skills to carry out routine calculations.
- Good communication skills.
- Experience working effectively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to work various shift patterns and reasonable overtime when required.
Desirable Skills & Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Previous mechanical or manufacturing experience.
- Experience working within a lean manufacturing environment.
- Experience working to takt times or production targets.
- Basic computer literacy where required.
Pay & Benefits
Caterpillar offers a competitive pay package and excellent employee benefits, including:
- Day Shift: £14.27 per hour
- Night Shift: £19.03 per hour
- Overtime (first 10 hours): £21.41 per hour
- Overtime (after 10 hours): £28.54 per hour
