Production Planner

SourceCo are seeking a highly organised and proactive Production Planner to join a fast-paced sheet metal manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner or scheduler to coordinate production activities, maximise efficiency, and ensure customer orders are delivered on time.

Working closely with production, procurement, and commercial teams, you will play a key role in balancing workloads, optimising capacity, and supporting continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation.

Salary:

• £32k - £40k per annum

Working hours:

• Monday to Friday 08:00 – 17:00

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and adjust daily and weekly production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity.
• Coordinate workflow across laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake, fabrication, welding, painting, and finishing departments.
• Monitor production progress, proactively resolving scheduling conflicts, bottlenecks, and delays.
• Work closely with procurement to ensure materials are available in line with production requirements.
• Collaborate with commercial and customer service teams to prioritise urgent and high-value customer orders.
• Maximise machine utilisation and labour efficiency to achieve production targets.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators including on-time delivery, lead times, capacity, and work-in-progress.
• Present weekly production capacity plans and highlight any operational constraints.
• Maintain accurate production data within ERP/MRP systems.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within planning and scheduling processes.
• Support long-term production planning and capacity forecasting

Required Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in production planning or scheduling within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience within sheet metal, fabrication, or precision engineering is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of fabrication processes including laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, and finishing.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other planning tools.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies would be advantageous.
• Experience with CAD/CAM systems and manufacturing workflows is desirable.
• HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline is desirable.
