Production Shift Manager - Energy-from-Waste

Talent STEM is supporting an Energy-from-Waste operator with the appointment of a Production Shift Manager.
This is a hands-on operational management position within a 24-hour process facility. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant during your shift, coordinating production, plant performance, maintenance support, safety systems and environmental compliance.
The roleYou will take operational control of the facility during your shift, ensuring the plant remains within safe operating limits and delivers against agreed production and performance targets.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the safe and efficient operation of the Energy-from-Waste facility
- Coordinating waste processing, combustion, boiler, steam and turbine operations
- Monitoring plant performance through the DCS and responding to abnormal operating conditions
- Managing plant start-ups, shutdowns and operational recovery activities
- Operating and managing permit-to-work and safe systems of work
- Coordinating maintenance activity to minimise disruption and operational losses
- Ensuring emissions and environmental permit requirements are met
- Managing shift resources, competence, training and succession planning
- Managing and developing the production shift team
- Supporting incident investigations, continuous improvement and operational projects
- Liaising with maintenance teams, contractors and external service providers
- Maintaining accurate operational records and effective shift handovers
About youDirect Energy-from-Waste experience is essential.
Due to the technical requirements of the position, applications can only be considered from candidates with direct operational experience within an Energy-from-Waste or waste-incineration facility.
You should have:
- Proven shift-based operational experience within Energy from Waste
- Strong knowledge of waste combustion and incineration systems
- Experience operating boilers, steam systems and turbine generation equipment
- Experience managing plant through a DCS or control-room environment
- Previous people-management or operational supervisory responsibility
- Experience of permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work
- A strong understanding of emissions control and environmental compliance
- The ability to manage plant issues calmly and make sound operational decisions
- At least five years’ relevant operational experience
- At least two years’ people-management experience
- An HNC or HND in a technical, engineering or process-related discipline would be advantageous. Significant directly relevant experience will also be considered in place of formal qualifications.

The total package is £58,500–£63,700, inclusive of shift allowance.
