White Label Recruitment are working with a well-established heavy engineering business in Manchester that is looking to recruit a hands-on Production Team Leader to support its manufacturing operation.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a business with a strong team culture, excellent training and long-term stability. Reporting to the Production Manager, you'll lead a team on shift while remaining hands-on, supporting production, problem-solving on the shop floor and helping drive safety, quality and productivity.
This role would suit an experienced Production Team Leader, Shift Supervisor or Senior Production Operative looking to step into a leadership position within a heavy manufacturing environment.
The Role
- Lead, motivate and support the production team to achieve daily targets.
- Carry out effective shift handovers and daily shop floor walkarounds.
- Allocate labour and manage production priorities throughout the shift.
- Monitor production performance, quality and productivity.
- Support Health & Safety, Quality and HR with day-to-day operational matters.
- Complete production documentation and update visual management boards.
- Deliver toolbox talks and communicate daily production plans.
- Train, mentor and develop new and existing operators.
- Support multi-skilling across the production team.
- Operate machinery during busy periods, holidays or absences.
- Promote 5S standards and continuous improvement.
- Conduct return-to-work interviews and manage low-level performance issues.
- Assist with accident investigations, SOPs and Risk Assessments.
- Ensure the factory is opened, secured and left in a safe condition each shift.
The Person
- Experience in a Production Team Leader, Supervisor or similar role.
- Hands-on manufacturing background within heavy engineering.
- Experience within fabrication, welding, sheet metal, heat treatment or similar industries preferred.
- Happy operating machinery when required.
- Strong people management and communication skills.
- Able to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
- Experience working towards production KPIs.
- Good organisational and planning skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of 5S, Lean or Kaizen principles would be advantageous.
- Experience reading engineering drawings would be beneficial.
