ISQ Recruitment is recruiting a Production Tooling Engineer for an established engineering business in Norfolk. The role is focused on designing and developing practical tooling solutions that improve build accuracy, efficiency and product changeover, with involvement from initial concept and CAD design through to manufacture, trials and final production introduction.

About the role
Working within Production Engineering, you will spend time understanding existing manufacturing operations before designing tooling and equipment to support production.
You will work closely with technicians, engineers and suppliers, developing solutions ranging from jigs and fixtures through to more involved production and automated equipment.
The role combines 3D CAD design with practical shop-floor involvement, so you will see your designs through manufacture, proof of concept, testing and introduction into production.

Key duties
  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures and production tooling
  • Improve existing tooling to increase build accuracy, efficiency and changeover speed
  • Produce 3D CAD designs, predominantly using Creo
  • Support development of production lines, manufacturing methods and assembly sequences
  • Work with technicians and engineers during builds and tooling trials
  • Develop specifications and work with suppliers on tooling and equipment solutions
  • Support procurement and introduction of new tooling and production equipment
  • Contribute to work instructions, process flows, PFMEAs, control plans and risk assessments
  • Release designs through internal engineering processes
  • Support tooling through manufacture, trials and final production introduction
What we are looking for
The key requirement is practical tooling design experience within a manufacturing environment.
You should have:
  • Experience personally designing jigs, fixtures or assembly/production tooling
  • Manufacturing or production engineering experience
  • Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally Creo, although experience with a similar package will be considered
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and geometrical tolerancing
  • Experience taking tooling from design through manufacture, trial and production use
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Ability to manage your own engineering projects and work independently when required
Experience with Lean manufacturing, AutoCAD or electrical/electronic systems used within test or production equipment would be beneficial but is not essential.
