The Role
As a Projects Planner you will be responsible for developing, managing, and reporting on project programmes in either Microsoft project or P6 Primavera and ensuring all planning and programming aspects are delivered effectively to meet project goals. This role plays a critical part in supporting project management teams by providing visibility of time-related risks and opportunities and advising on corrective actions.
All projects will have a program developed which will be a contractual requirement, the program will need to be updated and circulated on a weekly basis and regular one to one with Project managers will be required, this may be superseded contractually at relevant points.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and manage project programmes using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Monitor project progress through regular engagement with site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders.
- Update project schedules and forecasts based on progress, risks, changes and site feedback.
- Prepare and distribute short, medium and long-range look-ahead programmes to operational teams.
- Chair and participate in planning meetings, providing updates on programme status, milestones and constraints.
- Ensure planning systems, programme logic and project controls are maintained accurately.
- Review and integrate subcontractor, design, procurement and interface schedules into the master programme.
- Produce weekly and monthly programme reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor project performance against baseline programmes and agreed milestones.
- Identify, assess and communicate schedule risks, delays and mitigation measures.
- Support commercial teams by assessing the programme impact of variations, compensation events and early warnings.
- Carry out delay analysis, time impact assessments and recovery planning where required.
- Contribute to risk management, forecasting and cost-to-programme integration activities.
- Support tender planning, construction phasing and logistics planning for new and existing projects.
- Provide planning expertise to project teams, clients and stakeholders, supporting continuous improvement and lessons learned activities.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven planning experience within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure or construction environments.
- Advanced knowledge of project planning, scheduling and programme management methodologies.
- Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Excellent understanding of construction sequencing, methodologies and temporary works.
- Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4, FIDIC or similar construction contracts.
- Experience developing baseline programmes, look-ahead schedules and mitigation plans.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and reporting skills, including schedule and performance analysis.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Training
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent qualification or industry experience).
