Sapien are seeking a highly experienced Technical Programme Manager to lead complex engineering programmes within the gas turbine and turbomachinery sector for our client in the Derby area.

This is a very senior technical leadership position requiring significant industry experience. The successful candidate must have:

  • Extensive gas turbine and/or turbomachinery experience
  • A proven track record in technical leadership
  • Experience leading complex engineering programmes
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex engineering programmes from concept through to delivery.
  • Own programme scope, budget, schedule, resources, technical delivery and risk.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams of approximately 10–20 engineers.
  • Provide technical direction and decision-making based on strong gas turbine and turbomachinery knowledge.
  • Develop and manage Statements of Work (SOW), bids, cost models and technical proposals.
  • Lead systems engineering activities and ensure technical alignment across disciplines.
  • Manage programme scope, including identifying and bidding additional customer requirements.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet contractual, technical and programme requirements.
  • Monitor programme performance using Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Work directly with customers and senior stakeholders to define requirements, resolve technical issues and communicate programme progress.

Essential Experience

  • 15+ years' relevant engineering/programme experience, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Extensive gas turbine and/or turbomachinery experience
  • Previous experience in a senior technical leadership position
  • Proven experience leading complex engineering programmes from concept through to delivery.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, ideally 10–20+ engineers.
  • Strong understanding of gas turbine architecture, turbomachinery design and the interaction between engine systems.
  • Ability to make independent technical and programme decisions at a senior leadership level.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
  • Formal programme/project management qualifications are advantageous.
