Project Accountant (Short-Term Contract)

Our client is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join their dynamic team on a short-term contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence financial processes within a thriving organisation, ensuring that financial policies and procedures are robustly implemented and adhered to.
Role Purpose:
As a Project Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial aspects of various projects, ensuring compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements, and overseeing operational processes. Your expertise will contribute to the financial health and success of the organisation.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare and communicate monthly cost reports for the Project Steering Committee and legal entity board.
- Liaise effectively with key stakeholders, including Project Managers, Finance Systems Team, Accounts Payable, Group Tax, Finance Business Partners, and the Financial Controller. Present financial status updates to the Executive Management team.
- Own and deliver all project financial policies and procedures, ensuring clear documentation and maintenance, along with adherence to expenditure approvals within DOA authorisation levels.
- Provide timely financial reports, budgets, and project forecasts to project managers, complete with variance analysis.
- Engage in project accounting activities, including setting up projects in SAP, monitoring project status with Project Managers, and ensuring accurate time coding using the Fiori system.
- Prepare, maintain, and report on project finances, detailing committed, actual, unbilled, and billed costs.
- Manage all financial elements of construction contracts and agreements, ensuring timely settlement to mitigate operational risk.
- Oversee operational procedures relating to lending agreements and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Manage funding for legal entities, including working capital requirements and collaboration with external joint venture partners.
- Ensure accurate recording and reporting of project assets for corporate, statutory, and tax purposes while maintaining a robust controls structure.
- Lead the implementation of operational restructuring changes, including the creation of new SPVs, and coordinate with Group Finance on accounting entries.
- Support the Finance Manager in preparing financial accounting information for consolidated reporting, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Assist in identifying, improving, automating, and developing financial reporting processes through various projects.
- Participate as a key member of the project management team, providing essential financial support for commercial discussions and contract negotiations.
- Ensure all tax returns for project legal entities are completed timely, meeting VAT, RCT, and Corporation tax obligations.
- Take ownership of statutory accounts preparation and liaise with auditors as necessary.
- Manage all regulatory reporting in accordance with relevant regulatory licences.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience in project accounting or financial management.
- Strong proficiency with SAP and Fiori systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
