Project Accountant in St Helens

We’re looking for a hands-on Project Accountant to join a growing finance team in Haydock. You’ll take ownership of the monthly accounting for a portfolio of projects, working closely with project, commercial and finance colleagues to make sure every number is accurate, supported and understood.

What you’ll be doing

• Prepare monthly revenue recognition and project cost accounting for long-term contracts

• Maintain project balance sheet positions, including WIP, accrued and deferred revenue, retentions and provisions

• Review project cost reports and CVRs, testing percentage complete, forecast costs and margins

• Deliver month-end journals, reconciliations, schedules and commentary to deadline

• Investigate variances, resolve data issues and explain changes in project performance

• Support improvements to project accounting processes, controls and systems

What we’re looking for

You’ll be newly qualified or part-qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with experience in project or contract accounting. You’ll understand percentage-of-completion accounting and the contract balance sheet, and be confident working with project cost reports and commercial teams.

Experience in engineering, construction, infrastructure, energy, M&E or made-to-order manufacturing would be useful. Strong Excel skills are important; experience with NetSuite, ProScope or Power BI would be an advantage. You don’t need previous line management experience, but there’s room to develop as the team grows.
