Purpose of the Role
To manage vessel maintenance, repair, refit, survey and inspection projects for commercial marine clients, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. Acting as the key link between customers, operations and administration teams, the Project Manager will bring structure, planning and control to a fast-paced and reactive maintenance environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage vessel maintenance, repair, refit, survey and inspection projects from enquiry through to completion.
- Review customer work packages, survey reports and inspection requirements to define project scope, schedules and resource requirements.
- Plan and coordinate vessel movements, including slipway, boat hoist and yard operations.
- Communicate project schedules, priorities and resource requirements to Operations and Production teams.
- Coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials and equipment to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and providing regular updates on progress, risks and delivery timescales.
- Monitor project progress and adapt plans to accommodate changing priorities, operational constraints and emergency repair requirements.
- Identify, document and manage project risks, issues and scope changes.
- Capture and manage project variations and additional works, ensuring they are communicated for customer approval and invoicing.
- Liaise closely with Technical, Operations, Administration and Finance teams to ensure effective project delivery and commercial control.
- Maintain accurate project records and provide regular progress, resource and commercial updates to management.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance planning, communication and operational efficiency across the maintenance and repair business.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience in project management, maintenance planning or operational delivery within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organisational and scheduling skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience coordinating multiple activities and managing changing priorities.
- Commercial awareness, including management of project costs, variations and invoicing.
- Ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions in a reactive environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
Desirable
- Experience within marine, maritime, engineering, manufacturing, construction or other industrial environments.
- Understanding of commercial vessel maintenance and repair activities.
- Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
- Experience working within HSEQ systems.
- Knowledge of slipway operations, vessel surveys, dry docking or marine refit projects.
