Role Overview
An experienced M&E Project Engineer is required to join our client's project execution team based in the Belfast and Greater Lisburn area. In this key role, you will be responsible for overseeing mechanical and electrical engineering systems across high-profile data centre projects. You will act as a pivotal link between design teams, contractors, and client stakeholders to deliver complex building services on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Engineering Lead: Coordinate and drive the engineering lifecycle for mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring designs meet project specifications, regional standards, and client requirements.
Site & Design Coordination: Interface between design consultants, MEP sub-contractors, and site construction teams to resolve technical queries (RFIs) and evaluate engineering changes.
System Integration: Oversee the installation, integration, and interface of critical data centre systems, including HVAC, chilled water, power distribution, UPS, generators, containment, and BMS.
Quality & Technical Submittals: Review and approve technical submittals, equipment data sheets, and design packages; ensure rigorous QA/QC compliance across all M&E packages.
Planning & Progress Monitoring: Work closely with Project Managers and Planners to monitor installation progress against key milestone schedules and four-week look-ahead plans.
Testing & Commissioning Support: Collaborate with commissioning agents to prepare, execute, and document system testing (Levels 1-5) up to final handover.
Commercial & Risk Management: Assist in tracking scope changes, evaluating technical variations, and proactively mitigating engineering risks on-site.
Skills & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of project engineering experience within a construction, MEP contracting, or engineering consultancy environment.
Industry Experience: Proven experience on mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centres, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, or complex industrial builds) is highly desirable.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of MEP systems design, construction sequencing, building codes, and commissioning protocols for critical infrastructure.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Revit/Navisworks (BIM), MS Project, and Microsoft Office suite.
Core Competencies: Excellent problem-solving abilities, exceptional communication skills, and the capacity to manage multiple technical priorities simultaneously.
