In addition, as part of a strategically important industry, Urenco is now required to support the UK Government in exploring options to re-establish nuclear fuel capabilities to produce reactor fuel for defence purposes.
To support this new project, we are seeking a Project Engineering Manager to join our team in Capenhurst/Birchwood. In this role, you will work within our Government Services function as a key interface between site teams and Group stakeholders to ensure effective planning, coordination, and delivery across complex programmes.

About the Role
As a Project Engineering Manager, you will lead the delivery of engineering and design activities across major projects, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, technically robust, and aligned with project objectives. You will be responsible for developing engineering delivery strategies, managing multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing engineering scope from concept through to project delivery.
Working on projects of significant complexity and strategic importance, you will provide technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines, manage key stakeholder relationships, and ensure the successful integration of Urenco technologies while delivering safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
What You'll Do
Lead Engineering Delivery
- Develop and implement engineering and design strategies that support successful project delivery and business objectives.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated, fit-for-purpose design solutions.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable standards, legislation, customer requirements, and Urenco procedures.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the project lifecycle.
Manage Major Projects
- Deliver engineering and design scope in line with project safety, cost, schedule, quality, and business benefit objectives.
- Support project planning, estimating, resource management, and execution activities.
- Manage technical scope, engineering risks, and change control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance to support supplier selection, procurement, and contract delivery.
Drive Integration & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure effective integration of Urenco core technology and wider project systems.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project teams, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and key stakeholders.
- Oversee engineering interfaces and support the management of technical risk registers.
- Act as a trusted engineering leader and advisor throughout project delivery.
Provide Commercial & Technical Leadership
- Protect Urenco's commercial interests through effective engineering governance, contracting strategies, and supplier management.
- Ensure contractors and engineering partners deliver against agreed quality and performance expectations.
- Drive continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and lessons learned across projects.
- Support the development and implementation of engineering best practice across the organisation.
What Do You Need to Thrive in This Role?
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with professional accreditation (PE, CEng, EUR ING, or equivalent).
Preferred
- Project Management qualification (APM, PMI, or equivalent).
- Dual Use and Export Control Classification Officer accreditation.
Experience
- Proven experience delivering complex multi-million-pound engineering projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams >20 people and managing engineering delivery within major capital projects and regulated environments.
- Demonstrable success in engineering management, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery.
- Understand complex delivery models, commercial strategies and the implementation of procurement related activities
- Full understanding of the information management process, including document control, digital and design integration and supply chain management
- success in engineering management, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery.
Technical & Leadership Capability
- Strong understanding of engineering delivery, design management, and project execution.
- Experience managing complex supplier and contractual relationships.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering governance.
- Strong project management, risk management, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop engineering strategies and translate project requirements into effective delivery solutions.
