Project Manager
Chiltern Park Recruitment
Location: Nottingham | Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office
4-day working week, paid for 5 | Full-time or fractional/part-time considered
We are working with a fast-growing aerospace robotics innovator seeking a Project Engineer / Project Manager to support the delivery of complex precision robotic automation projects.
This is a really exciting time to join the business. Having previously been heavily R&D-focused, the company is now moving rapidly into commercial delivery, with around 85% of its activity expected to be commercially focused over the next 12–18 months.
They design and build advanced robotic drilling, inspection and guidance systems used by major aerostructure manufacturers. Following a significant new commercial order, they are now looking to strengthen their project delivery capability as the business continues to scale.
The role can be shaped around the right person. It could suit someone looking for a full-time position who wants to develop further within project management, or a more senior and experienced professional looking for a fractional or part-time arrangement with a genuine weekly commitment.
The Role
Working closely with the existing engineering team, you will help manage the delivery of sophisticated robotic automation systems from order through to completion.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supporting precision robotic automation projects from order through to successful delivery
- Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and against agreed technical requirements
- Keeping projects on track both commercially and technically
- Managing changes in project scope and ensuring these are properly documented and processed as formal order revisions
- Acting as the link between technical engineering delivery and commercial/contractual requirements
- Working closely with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams
- Identifying potential delays, risks or commercial issues early and helping keep projects moving
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers
- Helping the engineering team transition from an R&D/prototype mindset towards structured, deadline-driven commercial delivery
About You
We are interested in hearing from experienced Project Engineers, Project Managers or Technical Project Managers with a strong engineering background.
Ideally, you will have:
- Project engineering or project management experience within robotics, automation, capital equipment, special-purpose machinery or precision engineering
- Experience within aerospace, high-value manufacturing or a technically complex engineering environment
- Strong commercial awareness, including budgets, scope changes and order revisions
- Experience working directly with customers and managing client-driven deadlines
- The ability to understand both the technical and commercial sides of an engineering project
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work across engineering, commercial and customer teams
- A natural ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers
Supplier-side experience would be particularly valuable, especially if you are accustomed to working to tight, customer-driven deadlines rather than purely internal manufacturing timescales.
Alternatively, we would also be very interested in candidates who have managed large-scale robotic or automation line installations within an automotive, aerospace or OEM manufacturing environment.
What’s on Offer?
- 4-day working week, paid for 5
- Hybrid working, typically 2 days per week in the Nottingham office
- Full-time or fractional/part-time arrangements considered
- Flexibility for a more experienced senior project professional
- The opportunity to work with highly advanced precision robotic automation technology
- A modern, forward-thinking engineering environment
- The chance to join at a pivotal stage of growth as the business moves from R&D into commercial delivery
- A role where you can have a genuine influence on how projects are delivered as the company grows
This is a rare opportunity to join an innovative engineering business at a pivotal stage of its development and play a key role as its technology moves into major commercial application.
