Technical Project Manager - 6 Month FTC

I’m recruiting for a Technical Project Manager to join a well-established manufacturing business in Leeds on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract.

This is a key role within the Technical function, supporting a busy portfolio of R&D, NPD and technical projects and providing the structure and ownership needed to keep projects moving.

It’s not a laboratory or hands-on technical role. Instead, you’ll sit at the centre of multiple teams, bringing together R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Commercial to make sure projects are properly planned, tracked and delivered.

Project Manager Outline

You’ll take ownership of the project management framework across the Technical function, providing visibility of priorities, timelines, resources and risks.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and tracking multiple concurrent technical, R&D and NPD projects.
  • Maintaining project plans, milestones, actions, dependencies and risks.
  • Working with stakeholders across the business to drive accountability and keep projects on track.
  • Producing clear project dashboards, reports and updates for senior management.
  • Coordinating meetings, capturing actions and ensuring follow-up.
  • Supporting resource planning and identifying capacity constraints across the technical team.
  • Tracking project budgets and highlighting any potential variances.
  • Developing and improving project management processes, templates and reporting systems.
  • Working with the Technical Director to prioritise projects and manage competing demands.
  • Supporting the transition and ensuring continuity across the Technical function during a period of change.
About you

This role would suit an experienced Project Manager, Technical Project Manager, Programme Coordinator or Project Engineer who has worked within a technical, engineering, R&D or manufacturing environment.

You'll need to be highly organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing multiple projects and stakeholders at the same time. Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and project management platforms such as MS Project, Smartsheet, (url removed), Asana or similar would be useful.

You don't need to be a technical subject matter expert, but you should be confident enough to understand technical conversations, ask the right questions and challenge progress when required.

A degree or equivalent professional experience is expected. Experience within manufacturing, chemicals, engineering or another regulated environment would be advantageous.

The opportunity

This is a high-visibility 6-month project role working directly with the Technical Director and across a broad range of technical and commercial functions.

You'll have the opportunity to put structure around an established project portfolio, improve the way projects are managed and leave a lasting framework behind.
