This is a key role responsible for the successful delivery of multiple engineered-to-order projects, ranging from £10K to £5M+, with a particular focus on bespoke containers, enclosures and plant-room ventilation systems supplied into the power generation and wider industrial sectors.
The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from initial customer order through design, manufacture and delivery, through to installation, testing, commissioning and final customer acceptance.
The RoleWorking closely with customers, design, production, procurement, site teams and specialist subcontractors, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required technical, quality and acoustic standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking full ownership of projects throughout the complete lifecycle, from order through to final acceptance.
- Acting as the main point of contact for customers, managing expectations, communicating progress and resolving issues.
- Developing and maintaining detailed project programmes, managing milestones, dependencies, design approvals, procurement, manufacturing and site activities.
- Chairing regular project progress meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Planning and undertaking site surveys, capturing dimensions, interfaces, access constraints and technical requirements.
- Reviewing drawings against site conditions and resolving any discrepancies prior to manufacture.
- Preparing site-specific RAMS and ensuring all site activities comply with relevant Health & Safety legislation.
- Coordinating internal installation teams, ensuring scope, programme, quality, documentation and H&S requirements are clearly defined.
- Managing specialist subcontractors, particularly those involved in M&E fit-out, testing and site installation.
- Coordinating inspection and test plans, FAT/SAT activities, acoustic testing, commissioning and project handover documentation.
- Managing final customer acceptance and ensuring outstanding actions are closed out.
A key part of the role will be maintaining strong commercial control across the project portfolio, including:
- Taking ownership of project financial performance and gross margin.
- Managing budgets, cost forecasting, cash flow and payment applications.
- Managing variations, change control and recovery of additional costs.
- Working closely with production and procurement teams to monitor progress and control costs.
- Providing regular financial and project progress reporting.
- Identifying non-conformances and driving lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in engineered-to-order manufacturing or engineering projects.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience delivering complex engineering/manufacturing projects from design through to installation and commissioning.
- Experience working within the power generation, energy, heavy engineering or a similar technically demanding sector.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a customer-facing environment.
- Good understanding of contract administration, variations and change management.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial project management skills.
- Experience using project planning software such as Microsoft Project.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive approach, with the flexibility to travel to customer sites and undertake occasional overnight stays.
