Project Manager - Heavy Civil Engineering

Location: Dover / Hastings - projects across Kent & East Sussex

Salary: Competitive DOE + Company Car / Car Allowance + Benefits

Project Manager required to join a well-established and growing Civil Engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across the South East. The successful Project Manager will take responsibility for the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of technically challenging civil engineering schemes across the Dover, Hastings and wider Kent / East Sussex region.





This position is ideally suited to an experienced Project Manager who has developed their career with a Tier 1 main contractor and has a strong track record delivering heavy civil engineering projects, particularly within highways and structures.

You will lead projects from pre-construction and mobilisation through to completion, working closely with clients, commercial teams, designers, subcontractors and site delivery teams to ensure programmes, budgets, safety and quality requirements are achieved.

Project Manager Job Overview

  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of major civil engineering projects
  • Manage site teams, engineers, operatives and subcontractors
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards
  • Prepare and implement project management plans, method statements and risk assessments
  • Develop, monitor and regularly update project programmes
  • Understand tender allowances and monitor project performance against agreed budgets
  • Work closely with the commercial team to manage project cost, risk and contractual change
  • Manage NEC contracts, ensuring contractual requirements and timescales are achieved
  • Coordinate design activities between clients, consultants and internal project teams
  • Procure, assess and manage subcontractors throughout project delivery
  • Manage temporary works requirements and coordinate with relevant engineering teams
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and the wider supply chain
  • Lead project meetings and provide clear reporting on programme, cost, risk and delivery
  • Mentor and develop junior project and site management staff
  • Ensure compliance with company health, safety, environmental and quality procedures



Project Manager Job Requirements

  • Previous Project Manager experience with a Tier 1 main Civil Engineering contractor
  • Strong background delivering heavy civil engineering projects
  • Proven experience delivering highways and structures schemes
  • Experience managing major or technically complex infrastructure projects from mobilisation through to completion
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Experience managing project programmes, budgets, risk and contractual change
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methodologies
  • Experience coordinating design and temporary works
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational ability
  • CSCS, SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator qualification advantageous
  • Degree / HNC / HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline preferred
  • ICE membership or working towards professional membership advantageous
  • Full UK Driving Licence
