Mainstay Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Project Manager to join their team at RAF Alconbury. Our client provides facilities management and infrastructure services across the UK Defence estate, supporting the Ministry of Defence with a wide range of planned works, maintenance and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with experience across Facilities Management, Construction, Engineering or Infrastructure to take ownership of a varied portfolio of Billable Works projects within a high-profile Defence environment.
 
 
The Role
 
As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. You'll work closely with key stakeholders, site teams and supply chain partners to agree project scope, priorities and delivery programmes, while maintaining strong control of project risks, costs and performance. The role combines project management, stakeholder engagement, commercial awareness and operational delivery, making it well suited to someone who enjoys being involved in the detail while maintaining oversight of the wider project.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Manage Billable Works projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Develop and manage project plans, programmes, budgets and delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate internal teams and supply chain partners to ensure projects are appropriately resourced.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed KPIs, cost, time, quality and safety requirements.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements, ensuring appropriate safe systems of work are implemented.
  • Identify, assess and manage project and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects comply with relevant statutory, regulatory, health and safety and environmental requirements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to agree project scope, priorities and delivery timescales.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure relevant documentation is completed and uploaded to systems including SharePoint and CAFM platforms.
  • Monitor supply chain performance and ensure suitably qualified and experienced personnel are deployed.
  • Support effective financial and commercial management, ensuring value for money across project delivery.
  • Act as a key point of contact for customers and end users, resolving issues and complaints effectively.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and share best practice across the contract.
  • Support wider sustainability objectives, including initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the Defence estate.
 
 
About You
 
You'll have proven experience managing or supervising teams within a project delivery environment, ideally gained within Facilities Management, Construction, Engineering, Infrastructure or a similar operational setting. You'll be comfortable managing multiple priorities, coordinating operational teams and supply chain partners, and making practical decisions to keep projects moving. We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
 
  • Project management and delivery within a complex operational environment.

  • Resource planning and coordinating operational teams.
  • Stakeholder management and customer engagement.
  • Health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Risk management and safe systems of work.
  • Monitoring performance against KPIs and agreed project outcomes.
  • Data analysis and maintaining accurate project records.
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Teams and SharePoint.
  • CAFM systems and digital project management tools.
