We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering projects across the AMP8 programme in Cumbria.
This is a key delivery position with responsibility for managing water and wastewater projects across the full project lifecycle, from ECI and design through construction to commissioning. We are particularly interested in speaking with Project Managers who have previous experience within the United Utilities environment, alongside a strong technical understanding of reinforced concrete and complex civil engineering works.

Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of water and wastewater projects from ECI and design through to construction and commissioning.
- Define project scope, technical requirements and build robust, deliverable programmes.
- Manage multiple projects, teams and resources while developing and supporting the wider project team.
- Control project costs, forecasts and expenditure throughout delivery.
- Manage contractual relationships, including NEC4 contracts, variations and change management.
- Identify, track and mitigate programme, commercial and delivery risks.
- Ensure works comply with relevant water, environmental, health and safety legislation.
- Act as a key point of contact between the client, contractors, regulatory bodies and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients including United Utilities.
- Monitor and inspect works to ensure delivery against specification and current industry standards.
The Successful Candidate
- Previous Project Manager experience within the water / wastewater sector.
- Experience managing projects through the full lifecycle from ECI/design to commissioning.
- Previous United Utilities project or framework experience.
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete and complex civil engineering works.
- Experience of shaft sinking / deep structures would be highly advantageous.
- Good working knowledge of NEC4 contracts and change management.
- Strong commercial awareness, including cost control and forecasting.
- Proven experience managing and developing multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong programme, risk and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
