Project Manager - Tranche 5 Operational Project Manager (T2 Baggage Programme)
Summary
As the Tranche 5 Operational Project Manager for the Terminal 2 Baggage Programme (T2BP) at Heathrow, you will be responsible for leading and managing all construction delivery operations, both day and night. Your role involves planning, organising, and overseeing logistics across multiple sites including Terminal 2, Starlight Light Point compound, Delivery Marshalled Zones airside, and the Colnbrook Logistics Centre. You will act as the principal liaison between our client, supply chain partners (Beumer, Fujitsu, AviBC), Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) teams, and other Tier 1 suppliers.
You will develop, maintain, and own the logistics strategy aligned with employer requirements and company policies, ensuring smooth coordination of material movements, site waste management, and temporary traffic management. Your responsibilities include managing logistics personnel, site access, welfare facilities, and workforce forecasting. You will champion best practices in health and safety, provide guidance on HAL Fulcrum and logistics processes, and represent the programme at logistics meetings with Heathrow and strategic partners.
This role demands strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a complex, fast-paced infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and implement all logistics and waste management operations for the project.
Serve as the primary contact for logistics and waste management activities.
Develop and manage material movement processes controlling horizontal and vertical deliveries across multiple work sites.
Manage on-site logistics personnel, plant, and site access/egress controls.
Liaise with HAL regarding welfare facilities and workforce forecasting.
Promote and implement best health and safety practices across all site operations.
Set clear objectives, organise resources, and ensure timely delivery of logistics plans.
Coordinate with Permit and Temporary Works teams to align operations with project timelines.
Skills
Recent and relevant experience in operational project management within large-scale, complex infrastructure projects.
Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
Hands-on approach with a positive, calm attitude under pressure.
Experience managing Tier 1, 2, and 3 subcontractors and suppliers.
Ability to quickly adapt and learn in a dynamic environment.
Strong communication skills at all organisational levels.
Excellent organisational and workload management skills, balancing competing priorities.
Knowledge and application of health and safety best practices.
Experience in logistics planning and supply chain coordination.
Competence in managing temporary traffic and waste management on site.
Software/Tools
HAL Fulcrum logistics system (or equivalent)
Standard project management and reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
Certifications & Standards
Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., SMSTS) preferred
Experience working within CDM regulations and employer logistic requirements
